There are “Creations” and “Creations.” If you saw Columbia Chorale’s La Traviata
last March, then you heard Tracy Rhodus and Stuart Lutzenhiser. If you came to
our performance of Beethoven’s 9th, you heard baritone Andrew Stuckey. They
are back, from Houston, New Jersey and Seattle, to sing this special edition of
Haydn’s The Creation, in English. You will be moved by this creative production.
We promise.

One of Mozart’s most intriguing works, the Great Mass in C Minor was left unfinished.
Our audience found out how the Columbia Chorale got around this problem. The Chorale,
the 9th Street Philharmonic Orchestra, and soloists that included Metropolitan Opera
Competition winner, soprano Christina Pier, delighted a full house at MUMC.

Handel’s Messiah remains the most popular oratorio ever written. After a sold out
performance in 2005, Columbia Chorale accepted an invitation to be part of the
University of Missouri Concert Series, performing in Jesse Hall this year.

This performance was fun for the whole family. Soloists who bought their solos on
eBay. A sanctuary full of, well, altos... and some representatives of other sections as
well.

THE FINE PRINT
1. Columbia Chorale, with Artistic Director Alex Innecco, and accompanied by the Columbia
Civic Orchestra, is producing a performance of Handel’s Messiah Sing-Along as part of the
2006-2007 Missouri United Methodist Church Concert Series. The performance will take
place in the sanctuary of Missouri United Methodist Church on Sunday, December 10, 2006
at 4pm.
2. A Sing-Along performance means that the audience is invited to sing with the choir during
the chorus parts (and during those parts only).
3. A total of eight solos for this performance will be auctioned on eBay and the highest bidder
for each solo will sing – or give someone else the right to sing – that specific solo in the
performance (see list of solos and details below).
4. Each winning bidder (or their designated performer) is responsible for:
a. learning the music and words for the solo. Music will be provided.
b. scheduling and attending a rehearsal with piano and the Artistic Director on a date
mutually acceptable to the winning bidder and the Artistic Director. The first rehearsal
date must be between November 29 and December 9, 2006. This rehearsal should last
no more than 30 minutes.
c. attending a solo rehearsal with the Columbia Civic Orchestra and the Artistic Director
on the day of the performance, between 2pm and 3pm. Please note that all winning bidders
will be rehearsing during this one hour time slot; this is the only time winning bidders will be
able to run through their solos with the orchestra before the performance.
5. Anyone can bid and perform; there’s no expectation that only professional singers and/or
voice students will bid. However, make sure that you refer to item 6 below.
6. Rehearsals are not intended to be voice lessons or music lessons. Although they aren’t
expected to sound like professional singers beforehand, winning bidders also shouldn’t
expect that one rehearsal will transform them into Maria Callas or Placido Domingo.
7. Singers must follow the direction of the Artistic Director. Reasonable adjustments of
tempo/volume may be allowed, but the Artistic Director has the final word regarding how
the music should be performed.
8. Out-of-town bidders are responsible for providing their own transportation and lodging
for both rehearsals and the performance.
9. Tickets will be sold for this performance. Winning bidder may invite up to 4 (four) guests
to watch both the dress rehearsal and performance, provided that guests do not interfere
with rehearsal in any way. No guests are allowed in the first rehearsal.
10. This is the list of solos to be auctioned, by voice type. Each solo will have a separate
eBay auction listing. Please note that the dates which they will be available for auction differ:
a. Soprano
i. Rejoice Greatly – available for auction from November 9 to 18
ii. I know that my redeemer liveth – Nov 13-22
b. Alto
